Patrick J. Cahillane is a resident of the Leeds section of

Northampton in Hampshire County. He has worked at the

Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction for over 30

years starting as a Corrections Officer under the late Sheriff

John Boyle. Throughout his tenure under Sheriff Robert J.

Garvey, he has held the positions of Shift Supervisor,

Captain, Major in Charge of Security, and Deputy

Superintendent. Patrick is presently the sworn

Special Sheriff of Hampshire County.

While working at the jail Patrick has established relationships

with local law enforcement agencies assisting their efforts in

keeping their communities safe. He has also worked with the

American Correctional Association auditing other facilities

nationwide. He works to educate the employees on the best

practices in jail management based on training and education.

He holds the Certification from the American Jail Association

as a Certified Jail Manager, the only person in Western

Massachusetts with such rights and privileges.

Patrick is a graduate of Westfield State University and holds

a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from

Western New England University. He has been an adjunct

faculty member of Westfield State University in the

Criminal Justice Program since 2006.

 

Patrick and his wife Barbara have lived in the Leeds section

of Northampton since the 1980s. It was here they raised their

three daughters, Heather, Erin and Shannon. In his free time

Patrick enjoys spending time with his two rescue dogs,

Charlie, and Nina, fishing, and doing home repairs as well as

preparing interesting lectures for his Criminal Justice classes.
